From York to New York

One of the greatest things about this industry is the amazing amount of looks to choose from when designing your dream home.
But my all time favourite is the old blended to the new. This way, those stunning past looks aren't entirely lost they're just enhanced with our new ways of thinking hence the title :)

there are so many ways to complete this stunning look.
It a mix of white soft curtains and furniture with the more antique fundamentals of the room such as the banisters, wooden stairs, window & frames. Just make sure the materials aren't old...you dont want a law suit on your hands :P

Storage? yes please!!

Hi guys,

Who doesn't love storage? I know i do. This advice is more for when your building or renovating a bathroom otherwise its pretty hard.
Lately ive been thinking of ways to maximise space. Living in Sydney seems like to place to be right now resulting in more people, properties continuously being halved and space is sadly becoming something of a luxury. So if you dont have the courage to uproot yourself and bolt to the country think - walls.

Yes, walls :)

ever thought of whats in them??......SPACE!
So i've finally found a picture to support this idea. Although the look of concrete is totally rustic fabulosity it is extremely expensive!

Other alternatives is board. Its much cheaper and easier to cut out a section. You's be surprised with the range of materials out  there so go ask and see what best fits your budget.

Plus this 'open wall space' can be doubled up as a dividing wall between the shower (re. picture) or the toilet and the rest of the bathroom.

For the bathroom I'm currently designing i have used this idea. There is no door to the bathroom because its joined to the en-suit wardrobe of the main bedroom of the house, which has a door. I have made the doorway to the bathroom a metre long so its more of a walkway than just a door frame into the bathroom, and in those walls on either side of the doorway into the bathroom i have created these spaces for towels on one side and candles in the other (hope that makes sense, ill upload a photo of the finished look)

I am definitely a fan...let me know what you guys think

The secret of tall walls in a small space

Hi guys,

My first tip for this week is my absolute favourite and I think a little secret when it comes to manipulating the space of the room.

Now i adore high ceilings. So naturally whenever i walk into a room thats the first thing i notice.

And its so simple to do just changing the height of your curtains!

Instead of starting the bar which holds the curtains across the top rim of your door or window, kick it up a few inches. Don't put it right up to the ceiling but rather right in between.
This way you wont compromise on loosing that beautiful window and your wall will appear much taller than it is. Also the look of longer curtains will add to the illusion

Love ya ma
Look Here!!

My mother always told me "never make a promise you never intend to keep".
Now, for those of you who have never met my mother she's a well of knowledge. Unfortunately... she also forgets most of her valuable quotes, mainly because I'm almost certain they're heavily influenced by Grey's Anatomy and the episode turn-over is roughly one or two a week..but some resonate...some

My point being is my promise. Interior design is more than a job of colouring in between the lines and finding pretty things to fill a space.

Its about making the most out of the space you live in. Your house is your own private museum and the way its designed inside is the way outsiders will come to understand you as a person. Are you neat? does it flow? what do your pictures say about you? which magazines are you into? art appreciation? colour patterns, materials, carpets, picture frames, walls and the list is never ending.

So my unofficial yet somewhat public therefore official promise is that i will blog every week. My ultimate aim would be 'tip of the day' - or you can follow me on twitter for tip of the week :)

Ill get there but with full time uni, interior design internship and exams on the horizon im thinking its best to pace myself.

So feel free to ask questions PLEASE FOLLOW ME ON TWITER or just look on for the latest in my design world and let me take you somewhere beautiful :)
